Sugar beet processing waste as a substrate for yeast protein production for livestock feed

This study investigated the optimal yeast strains for producing single cell protein based on waste sugar beet pulp (SBP) under various biomass loads. All tested were capable of growing biomass. Candida utilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ethanol Red produced greatest increase in fresh SBP (ΔN 1.84%). Scheffersomyces stipitis 2.27%) provided highest dried SBP. showed significant assimilation nitrogenous compounds. Based crude fiber content after fermentation, largest reduction occurred with R6 (10.5%) SBP, Yarrowia lipolytica (13.1%) These results demonstrate potential as a substrate production highlight importance selecting appropriate to optimize process.
